Tottenham latest Premier League side linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney

Tottenham latest Premier League side linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney

Toney’s impressive Brentford stint

After Ollie Watkins departed for Aston Villa during the delayed summer transfer window, Brentford required fresh legs to replace a man who netted 25 goals in 46 Championship outings last season.

The player the Bees settled on was Ivan Toney, who they signed from League One outfit Peterborough.

Toney had netted 26 times in League One across the previous campaign, an impressive return.

But few were likely expecting the 25-year-old to prove quite as prolific as he has since been in the Championship.

Across 44 appearances in the English 2nd-tier, Toney has already found the net on 30 occasions, as well as providing 10 assists.

Tottenham interested in Toney

Such fine form has already seen the striker linked with a move to the Premier League.

It was claimed earlier this year that Leicester City were looking at the Brentford standout as a potential long-term replacement for Jamie Vardy:

Now, it appears another Premier League side are interested in signing Toney.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Tottenham have joined a ‘pack of clubs’ keen on Toney.

Toney, though, does not look to be viewed as a replacement for Harry Kane, with FI explaining that Spurs want a proven senior striker regardless of whether Kane gets the transfer he is seeking in the summer window.

The Lilywhites do, of course, currently have Carlos Vinicius on loan acting as back-up to Kane. But it has been reported that the north Londoners are not planning to make the Brazilian’s signing permanent.

No potential fee is mentioned in the report by FI, but you would imagine it would take a sizable sum for the Bees to part with their star man.
